The Irvington District is the largest historic district in Oregon and one of the largest in the whole United States. Its character and quality is under the protection of the federal government, leading to enhanced property value for owners.

This district has a very close knit community. It established one of the first neighborhood associations in 1966. It plays a vital role in promoting and preserving one of Portland’s most vibrant and treasured enclaves. In 1899, the Portland Streetcar expanded to the Irvington District. To this day, it has allowed residents to easily take public transit around the city.

There have been two large tax incentive programs created in the Irvington District, helping property owners save money. The first is the Oregon Special Assessment Program. It is a special 10-year assessment offered on historic building that have be appropriately remodeled and maintained. The second is the Federal Historic Property Tax Credit, offered to contributing income-producing properties.
